The two large state theaters of Hamburg are the "Thalia Theater" and the "Deutsches Schauspielhaus". Of course, there are numerous small private theaters in Hamburg as well.
In the "Laeiszhalle", classical concerts are performed. Until the building works of the enormous "Elbphilharmonie" will be finished, this is Hamburg's only concert hall. For operas, the "Hamburgische Staatsoper" is the right place.
Also regarded as "Musical Capital" of Germany, the most important feature of Hamburg's cultural scene, however, are not theaters, concerts or variete, but musicals. Therefore, you must not miss visiting one of the musicals, some of which even have their own halls, e.g. the musical "King of the Lions".
