Hamburg Churches: St. Jacobi

The church St. Jacobi is one of Hamburg's four main churches dating back to the Middle Ages.

The history of St. Jacobi started in 1255 when it was a chapel for pilgrims on the way to the grave of St. Jacobus.

Within the scope of the expansion of Hamburg, the chapel became part of the city 5 years later.
In 1350, it was replaced by a new - and of course larger - hall church of gothic style. About 150 years later, the church received a fourth nave.

During World War II, St. Jacobi was destroyed to a large extent and had to be rebuilt afterwards.

Now, St. Jacobi lies in the middle of Hamburg near Mönckebergstrasse. Although it is hidden, you should visit it when you are in Hamburg. Not only masses take place here. There are also carried out quite many organ recitals. In addition, the "Turmcafe" has become really famous.
