Hamburg Places: Harbour City

The Harbour City is a great building project that is just being realized in Hamburg's harbour area south of the Speicherstadt.

Unused areas of the harbour are being covered with modern buildings.

Although the project is quite extensive - or even the most extensive one of its kind - it already adds to the city of Hamburg. The population of the inner city will be increased by 12,000 citizens (or 40%) and in addition, there willl be many shops, restaurants, museums etc. Unfortunately, you have to wait about 20 years until the project will be finished.

If you are interested in the progress of the building works, you just have to pass the Speicherstadt and explore the new area. There are already going buses through it.


An alternative is to visit the information center dealing with the project: the "Hafencity Infocenter" in the Kesselhaus. The model showing the current state of the building works is constantly updated. Here, you get a real overview of the progress of the works.
