Hamburg Food & Drink

Due to its closeness to the sea, the food offered in Hamburg's restaurants is quite international and includes something for every taste. But of course, fish plays quite an important role in Hamburg's cuisine, which is not necessarily obvious when you order a typically local speciality.

For example, you could try Labskaus, a mixture of corned beef, mashed potatoes and red beets served with herring or fried eggs. There are many varieties of this dish. Other local meals are the "Aalsuppe", a soup with a mixture of ingredients or "Bohnen, Birnen und Speck" (beans, peas and bacon).

With regard to drinks, the "Alsterwasser" is really famous in Hamburg. This is a mixture of beer and lemonade.

In some areas of Hamburg, there are snack bars, restaurants, bars and pubs in every street and at every corner.

In the Schanzenviertel, for example, there are so many restaurants you will surely find something you like to eat. Most of the restaurants are in Schanzenstrasse, Susannenstrasse and Schulterblatt. Another good thing about that area is that the restaurants or bars are not overpriced at all.
